HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a

Printer won't print.  I have tried to download the server.  Remove it, then re download, and so on.  The printer shows up but says "Server Unavailable" right under the printer name.  I've spent hours trying to figure this out.  Any suggestion?

Hi @Squire77,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're encountering a "Server Unavailable" error message while trying to use the HP Smart app with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 printer, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

  • Check Internet Connection: Ensure that your computer or mobile device is connected to the internet. The HP Smart app requires an active internet connection to communicate with HP's servers.
  • Update HP Smart App: Make sure you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed on your device. Outdated versions may not work properly and could lead to server connection issues.
  • Restart the App: Sometimes, simply closing and reopening the HP Smart app can resolve connectivity issues. Close the app completely, then relaunch it.
  • Check HP Server Status: Occasionally, HP's servers may experience downtime or issues. You can check the status of HP's servers on their official website or through their support channels to see if there are any known server problems.
  • Firewall and Security Software: Ensure that your firewall or security software is not blocking the HP Smart app from accessing the internet. You may need to add an exception for the app in your firewall settings.
  • Clear App Cache and Data (Android): If you're using the HP Smart app on an Android device, you can try clearing the app's cache and data. To do this, go to your device's Settings > Apps > HP Smart > Storage > Clear Cache/Clear Data. Note that this will reset the app's settings.
  • Reinstall HP Smart App: If none of the above steps work, try uninstalling the HP Smart app and then reinstalling it. This can often resolve any app-related issues.
  • Check Printer Connectivity: Ensure that your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 printer is connected to your local network and is online. You may need to restart the printer and check its network settings.
  • Check Network Connection: Make sure your Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection is stable and working. If your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network, try connecting to a different network to see if the issue persists.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
