Hi @WOJR,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 prints from your Mac but won’t scan, try the following steps to fix the issue:
1. Restart Everything
- Restart your Mac, printer, and router.
- After restarting, check if scanning works.
2. Check HP Smart or HP Easy Scan
- Open HP Smart or HP Easy Scan (download from the Mac App Store if you don’t have them).
- Try scanning a document.
- If the scanner is not detected, move to the next step.
3. Check Printer Connection
- If your printer is on Wi-Fi, make sure both the Mac and the printer are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- If using USB, try a different port or cable.
4. Reset Printing System (Mac)
- Go to System Settings → Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control + click) the HP printer and choose Reset Printing System.
- Re-add the printer by clicking Add Printer, selecting the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710, and ensuring you select the HP software driver (not AirPrint).
5. Enable Scan to Computer
- Open HP Utility (from Applications → HP folder).
- Select your printer and go to Scan to Computer.
- Enable Scan to Computer.
6. Check for HP Software Updates
- Go to HP’s support site, search for the OfficeJet Pro 8710, and download the latest HP Smart app or full-feature software.
7. Use Image Capture (Mac’s Built-in Scanner App)
- Open Image Capture (from Applications).
- Select your HP printer in the left panel.
- Try scanning.
8. Uninstall and Reinstall HP Software
- Delete the HP Smart app (if installed).
- Remove the printer from System Settings → Printers & Scanners.
- Download the latest HP Easy Start from HP’s website.
- Follow the prompts to reinstall.
9. Check Firewall & Security Settings
- On your Mac, go to System Settings → Network → Firewall and ensure it’s not blocking the HP app.
10. Try a Different Scan Method
- If scanning from the printer's control panel, make sure Scan to Computer is enabled in HP Utility.
- Try using HP Smart or Image Capture instead.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
