Microsoft Windows 11

My HP 9135e Officejet pro printer was working fine with the HP Smart software and the HP Scan software.  But now it has stopped working with the HP Scan software.  I keep getting the message "The HP Imaging Device was not found".   I use the HP Officejet with a USB cable for scanning, and it also has a Wifie connection.  The HP Smart software sees the printer in both modes, so the cable connection is fine.   The HP Scan software had been working fine, and the only change is Windows 11 did a major update before this problem.

Welcome to the HP English Community --

Windows Updates can reek havoc -- printer software can be impacted and either recover itself when the system is again restarted, or perhaps the printer software will need a uninstall / reinstall.

It's somewhat common to have Windows Updates pound printer software into paste.

Two printers mentioned -

"Full Driver" webpage for OfficeJet Pro 9125e and Windows 11

HP OfficeJet Pro 9120 series EasyStart Printer Setup Software - Offline Use Only

and / or

For OfficeJet Pro 9135e and Windows 11

HP OfficeJet Pro 9130 series EasyStart Printer Setup Software - Offline Use Only

HP Universal Scan Software -

Essentially the same software as HP Scan -- and the same software is used / installed for both printer series

Open website  HP Universal Scan Full Feature Software

If needful, choose a different OS > Open all

Find / Download / Save / Install HP Universal Scan – Full Feature Software and Driver Webpack

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

This can be a bit confusing if you installed both the Full Driver and the Universal Scan Software.

They are essentially the same software but do occupy a different location in the Windows File system.

You don't have to reinstall everything, though unless you know what / which you have installed and what / which "HP Scan" software has failed, then uninstalling it all is best to catch the actual "broken" bits.

To Uninstall a non-working software, find it in Programs and Features

Click on the name of the software and Uninstall

Restart the computer and log in

Yeah, but...

  • True - Installed Software is also listed in Settings > Apps > Installed Apps
  • True, too - You can uninstall Software from Installed Apps
  • Finally - Apps (not software) are listed in Installed Apps but not in Programs and Features.
  • The HP Smart Application is not software -- for the purposes of this message -- HP Smart need not be touched.

Regardless of how you uninstall the full driver and / or the Universal Scan software,

After the system is restarted, you can (re)install the printer software Web Pack Installation package.

Example -

Programs_and_Features_Printer_Desktop_Icons_20Programs_and_Features_Printer_Desktop_Icons_20

In general, the web pack should load -

Download package > Save > Right-Click on the installation Package > Run as Administrator

If / When asked, opt for the Full Driver / Full Software to be installed.

Using USB?  (Re)Connect when instructed to do so.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

The installation of the full driver generally adds at least one or more shortcuts to the Desktop.

Note Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and HP Scan are dependent on printer model and supported software options.

  • Printer Assistant – Where still supported as part of the full driver printer software
  • HP Scan – Shortcut on Desktop named for the printer model

OR

  • HP Scan Assistant – For those printers that no longer provide the Printer Assistant
  • HP Scan - Shortcut named for itself

AND / OR

  • When installed, HP Universal Scan software adds a separate self-named “HP Scan” shortcut

Printer Assistant shortcut > Tab Scan > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable

Or

HP Scan Assistant shortcut > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable
