My Smart Tank 7600 keeps pausing when I try to print from any software program. It does print if I print from within the HP Smart app. I have removed and added back the printer, and the Smart app itself. However, it never seems to get rid of the printer out of the app, even though it has been removed from the OS

Any help would be greatly appreciated - this is extremely frustrating!

Hi @pmmacca

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Smart Tank 7600 is pausing during print jobs from other software programs but works fine when printing from the HP Smart app, here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

1. Check Printer Queue

  • Open the printer queue on your computer (you can find this in Control Panel > Devices and Printers).
  • Ensure there are no stuck print jobs. If you see any, cancel them.

2. Set as Default Printer

  • Make sure your HP Smart Tank 7600 is set as the default printer. Go to Devices and Printers, right-click on your printer, and select Set as default printer.

3. Update Drivers

  • Make sure you have the latest drivers installed. Visit the HP support website and download the most recent drivers for your printer model.

4. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Use the HP Smart app to check for any firmware updates for your printer and install them if available.

5. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.

6. Reinstall Printer in OS

  • Completely remove the printer from your computer:
    • Go to Devices and Printers, right-click on the printer, and select Remove device.
  • Restart your computer, then add the printer back again.

7. Check Print Settings in Software

  • When printing from other software programs, check the print settings. Make sure that the correct printer is selected and that there are no unusual settings that might cause it to pause.

8. Try Different Connection Method

  • If you are using Wi-Fi, try connecting the printer via USB to see if the issue persists. If it works fine with USB, the issue may be with the wireless connection.

9. Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. This tool can help diagnose and fix common printing issues.

10. Check Firewall/Antivirus Settings

  • Sometimes firewall or antivirus software can interfere with printing. Temporarily disable them to see if it resolves the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
