HP DeskJet 2755e All-in-One Printer

I installed the Sequoia 15.3.2 up date a few days ago on a HP Desk Jet printer that was working fine.  Now I cannot scan or print anything and the HP Smart App does not work.

Hi @Veteran4,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP DeskJet printer is experiencing compatibility issues with the macOS Sequoia 15.3.2 update. To resolve these issues, follow the steps below:

Update the Printer Driver

  1. Visit the HP Support page: Go to HP Printer Drivers and enter your printer model.
  2. Download and install the latest driver: Download the latest driver compatible with macOS Sequoia 15.3.2 and install it.

Reinstall HP Smart App

  1. Uninstall the HP Smart App: Remove the app from your macOS device.
  2. Download the latest version: Visit the Apple App Store and download the latest HP Smart App version.

Reset Printing System

Open System Preferences: Go to System Preferences on your Mac.

Reset Printing System: Open Printers & Scanners, right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and select Reset Printing System.... This removes all your printer configurations.

Reset Printing System

Add Printer: Reconnect and add your printer again.

Check for macOS Compatibility

  1. Check macOS Version: Ensure that your macOS firmware and software are updated. Sometimes older versions might cause hiccups.
  2. Check HP Support for macOS Sequoia: Make sure your printer model is compatible with macOS Sequoia 15.3.2.

Use HP Utility

  1. Open HP Utility: Navigate to Applications > HP folder > HP Utility.
  2. Perform Maintenance Tasks: Run HP Utility and perform cleaning printheads or updating the printer firmware.

Let me know if it helped.

Thank you for all the advice.  I have followed all of it except for the HP utility which is no longer offered by HP.  The HP Smart App will not diagnose anything although it does recognize the printer.  It will not set up any kind of connection.  The printer is visible in the print menu for Pages and MS Word.  The printer queue shows no jobs but has a green light to the left of the idle status.  The printer does work and will print if buttons on the printer itself are pushed.  All was great until I updated to Sequoia 15.3.2.  Mac support spent 1.5 hours on the phone with me without result except that is HP's problem.  HP support says it is a Mac problem.  Thank you Kuroi_Kenshi for your help.  I have no idea what else I can try.

Hi @Veteran4,

Thank you for the response:

It sounds like the Sequoia 15.3.2 update may have caused a communication issue between your Mac and the HP DeskJet printer, especially since the printer is being recognized but not functioning properly via software. Here are some additional steps that may help:

Check HP's macOS Sequoia Compatibility List

HP may not yet have fully updated drivers for macOS Sequoia 15.3.2.

Visit HP’s official website and search for your printer model under Sequoia compatibility:

Manually Reset the Printer Setup

Since the printer appears in the print menu, but isn't responding, try manually resetting and re-adding it:

Remove the printer:

Go to System Settings → Printers & Scanners.

Select your printer and click the “-” (minus) button to remove it.

Reset the printing system:

In Printers & Scanners, right-click in the blank space and select Reset Printing System.

Re-add the printer:

Click the “+” (plus) button and add your HP printer again.

If given a choice, select AirPrint or Secure AirPrint rather than an HP driver.

Manually Install HP Drivers

Since HP Smart isn’t working, try installing a driver manually:

Download the HP Easy Start app

Run HP Easy Start and follow the prompts to install the correct driver.

Restart your Mac after installation.

Use AirPrint Instead of HP Smart

If your printer supports AirPrint, you might be able to bypass HP Smart entirely:

Remove the printer (if not already removed).

Re-add it, but choose "Use: AirPrint" instead of an HP driver.

Test if printing and scanning work.

Try a Different Connection Method

If you're using Wi-Fi, try switching to USB or Wi-Fi Direct.

For USB:

Connect via cable and re-add the printer in Printers & Scanners.

For Wi-Fi Direct (if supported):

On the printer, enable Wi-Fi Direct.

Connect your Mac to the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct network.

Try printing.

Reset Printer to Factory Defaults

If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply.  I have done everything you recommended several times and I am still stuck.  There is no HP Mac Sequoia compatibility list.  I have searched HP's web site.  I have spoken with HP reps and Mac reps and each one says it is the other's fault.   I am tired of dealing with this.  I am stuck with Apple but I will not be buying anymore HP products and I used to be a good customer.

Hi @Veteran4,

Thank you for your detailed response, and I'm truly sorry you're still facing issues even after trying all possible steps, I can understand how frustrating this must be.

Since you’ve already completed all standard troubleshooting methods, here’s what I’d recommend next:

Use AirPrint as a Temporary Workaround (if not already set)

macOS Sequoia 15.3.2 may not be fully compatible with HP proprietary drivers yet. AirPrint offers a direct solution that doesn’t rely on third-party software.

Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners

Remove the existing printer (click –)

Click the + to re-add the printer

Choose “Use: AirPrint” or “Secure AirPrint” from the dropdown

This has worked for many users temporarily until a dedicated driver update is released.

I hope this helps.

I pulled the USB cable which allows other computers to print and deleted the printer and scanner.  "Choose “Use: AirPrint” or “Secure AirPrint” from the dropdown" was your advice.  The menu did not give me either of these options.  So I plugged the USB cable back in, added the printer and scanner back,  and left it at that.  I am very disappointed.  I don't know whether this is the fault of HP, Apple, or both, but I am done with this.  I think the fault lies with both HP and Apple but I am just the customer.
