@64Pat0950, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If HP Smart is unreliable with your HP Laser MFP 137fnw, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:

Check Printer Connectivity

  • If using Wi-Fi: Ensure the printer is on the same network as your PC or phone.
  • If using USB: Try a different USB port and cable.
  • If using Ethernet: Check that the cable is securely connected.

Restart HP Smart & Printer

  • Close HP Smart completely and restart your computer.
  • Power off the printer, unplug it for 30 seconds, then power it back on.

Reset HP Smart

  • On Windows:
    • Open Settings > Apps > Installed Apps (or Apps & Features in older Windows).
    • Find HP Smart, click on it, and select Advanced optionsReset.
  • On Mac:
    • Go to Finder > Applications and delete HP Smart.
    • Restart your Mac and reinstall it.

Reinstall HP Smart & Drivers

  • Uninstall HP Smart from your device.
  • Download the latest version from:
    • Windows/macOS: HP Smart Official Site
    • Android/iOS: App Store / Google Play
  • Install and set up your printer again.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows)

Disable Sleep Mode (If the Printer Stops Responding)

  • On the printer control panel, press Menu.
  • Go to System Setup > Timer Settings and adjust sleep settings.

Try Printing Without HP Smart

  • Open a document in Word, PDF Reader, or Notepad.
  • Press Ctrl + P (Windows) or Cmd + P (Mac).
  • Select your printer and try printing.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
