My iMac is updated to Mac OS Sonoma 14 and Apple say the printer software needs updating and to contact the printer manufacturer - HP. The first few days the printing was ok, now it doesn't print any ink. The ink levels are OK and the paper moves through the printer as usual but no image..

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
I see that you are facing an issue with your Printer.
A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain on the printer.
1) Take out the cartridges
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges
Restart all the devices which you use to print on your printer and check if that works.
B) Uninstall the HP smart app by click on this link, Restart the computer or mobile device to clear possible error conditions.
C) Refer to this link to use the HP smart app on your phone/tablet/PC to add a printer.

Thanks for your reply. I tried rebooting the printer in the way you describe, and I swapped the black ink cartridge too although it is not reporting low ink. No success so far, although it is marginally improved when printing from the iPhone and the colours work again from all sources. The message from Sonoma about the missing HP software has stopped.
The printer was working fine before the Sonoma upgrade, so still puzzled and without a printer.

I am sorry to hear that the above link did not help much.
Make a copy on the printer standalone and let me know if you have the same issue. (Place an original document on the scanner glass and make a copy to confirm hardware failure)
If the issue persists even while making a copy, then there is an issue with the hardware.
