Hi,
My printer was working okay with usb. But suddenly it doesn’t. I can’t connect it to my wifi. It only functions as direct wifi. I tried changing the network settings, but it’s all under admin lock.
Why is someone else locking my printer ?
what is the admin password ? Why don’t I have it ? But I didn’t set it either. I am so confused. Please help me.

Hi @Lajibolala,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP DeskJet 3632 has had its embedded web server (EWS) or printer settings locked by an admin password—possibly unintentionally or due to a previous owner, firmware update, or even HP Smart setup assigning a default admin lock.
HP does not publicly publish default passwords, but try these:
- blank password (just hit Enter)
- admin
- 12345678
- Your Wi-Fi network password
- Your HP Smart account password
If none of these work, you’ll likely need to restore the printer to factory settings.
Factory Reset HP DeskJet 3632
⚠️ This will remove Wi-Fi settings, custom admin settings, and return the printer to out-of-box state.
- Turn off the printer.
- Hold down the Wireless and Cancel (X) buttons at the same time.
- While holding power on the printer.
- Keep holding the buttons for 5–10 seconds until the printer lights flash.
- Release the buttons. The printer will reset itself and restart.
After Reset: Set Up Wi-Fi Again
You can now re-add it via:
- The HP Smart app (choose “Set up a new printer”).
- Or use Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) if your router supports it (press the WPS button on the router, then on the printer).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
