Hi @RichG13,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-In-One printer isn't printing in color, try the following troubleshooting steps:
1. Check Printer Settings
- On your computer, open the Printer Properties or Preferences.
- Ensure that the option for Color Printing or Print in Color is selected.
- Make sure Grayscale or Black and White is not selected.
2. Verify Ink Levels
- On the printer's touchscreen, go to Settings > Ink Levels (or a similar menu).
- Check if the color cartridges have sufficient ink. Replace any low or empty cartridges.
3. Clean the Printhead
- On the printer, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
- Run the cleaning cycle and print a test page to check for color output.
4. Run a Print Quality Diagnostic Report
- On the printer touchscreen, go to Setup > Reports > Print Quality Report.
- Check if the color blocks are missing or faded. This can indicate a printhead issue.
5. Update or Reinstall Drivers
- Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for the OfficeJet Pro 6978.
- Uninstall the current printer driver and reinstall the updated version.
6. Check the Application Settings
- If you're printing from a specific app, ensure the app’s print settings are set to color.
7. Ensure the Correct Paper Type
- Ensure the paper type selected in the print settings matches the type of paper loaded in the printer.
8. Perform a Printer Reset
- Turn off the printer, unplug it, and wait for 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and power it on. Test print again.
9. Replace the Color Cartridge
- If the issue persists, the color cartridge may be faulty. Replace it with a genuine HP cartridge.
10. Perform a Factory Reset
- As a last resort, reset the printer to factory settings:
- Navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Settings.
- Reconfigure the printer and test printing in color.
Let me know how it goes or if you need further assistance!
