my office jet 6950 can't scan or print.  When I check the setting in my Notebook, I find it said " Driver is not available "  When I try to print, it always takes me to " save " a file instead of printing.

Hi @JJscreen,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering issues with your HP OfficeJet 6950 printer, specifically related to driver availability and printing problems. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to help resolve these issues.

Check Connection: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your computer. If it's a wired connection, make sure the USB cable is securely plugged in. If it's a wireless connection, ensure that both the printer and your computer are on the same network.

Driver Installation: It seems like the driver for your printer is not installed or is not working correctly. To resolve this issue, you should reinstall the printer driver:

a. Go to the official HP website.

b. Search for the driver and software download section for your HP OfficeJet 6950 printer model.

c. Download and install the latest driver for your operating system.

Operating System Compatibility: Make sure that the driver you downloaded is compatible with your operating system (e.g., Windows 10, macOS). Download the correct driver version if necessary.

Default Printer: Ensure that your HP OfficeJet 6950 is set as the default printer on your computer. Here's how to do it:

For Windows:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click on your HP OfficeJet 6950 printer and select "Set as default printer."

For macOS:

  1. Open "System Preferences."
  2. Click on "Printers & Scanners."
  3. Select your HP OfficeJet 6950 printer and click the "Set as Default" button.

Print Queue: Sometimes, print jobs get stuck in the print queue and can cause issues. Clear the print queue:

For Windows:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click on your printer and select "See what's printing."
  3. Delete any pending print jobs.

For macOS:

  1. Open "System Preferences."
  2. Click on "Printers & Scanners."
  3. Select your printer, then click the "Open Print Queue" button.
  4. Delete any pending print jobs.

Scanning Issues: If you're also experiencing scanning problems, ensure that the scanner driver and software are properly installed. You may need to reinstall the scanner driver from the HP website.

File Saving Instead of Printing: If your printer is prompting you to save files instead of printing, check your print settings. Make sure you have selected the correct printer in the print dialog and that you haven't accidentally set it to print to a PDF or file.

After following these steps, restart your computer and try printing and scanning again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
