My HP Smart Tank 7600 series no longer offers the option to print in colour. It may be related to a recent software change by HP.  What are the steps to resolve this?

Hi @Rpalio,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Smart Tank 7600 no longer gives the option to print in colour, possibly after a recent HP software update. Let’s go through steps to restore full colour printing functionality.

1. Check Printer Preferences

Open a document and go to Print → Printer Properties / Preferences.

Ensure Colour / Color Printing is selected instead of Black & White / Grayscale.

Apply the changes and try printing a test page.

2. Update or Reinstall HP Drivers

Visit the HP Support site and download the latest full-feature driver for your printer and operating system.

Uninstall the current HP driver/software from your computer first.

Reinstall the latest driver and check if the colour option returns.

3. Check HP Smart App Settings

Open the HP Smart app on your PC or mobile device.

Select your printer → Pint Settings → make sure colour printing is enabled.

Some updates may reset preferences to black & white by default.

4. Reset the Printer

Power off the printer.

Disconnect the power cord for 30 seconds.

Reconnect and power on.

Perform a printer network/settings reset via the control panel if needed.

5. Firmware Update

Check the HP Support site for firmware updates specific to your printer.

Install the latest firmware, as some colour printing issues are resolved with firmware updates.

6. Test Colour Printing

After updating drivers, firmware, and resetting preferences, try printing a colour test page:

Windows: Control Panel → Devices and Printers → Right-click printer → Printer Properties → Print Test Page.

Mac: System Preferences → Printers & Scanners → Select printer → Options & Supplies → Utility → Print Test Page.

I hope this helps.
