No matter how many times I enter the serial number and product number the system says there is no such thing. I suspect it is because the printer is over 8 years old.  My MacBook Air is new.  Do newer computers no longer work with older printers?  I regret ever having lost the software to that printer.

The printer name which will not be accepted is:

Laserjet Pro MFP M130fn

The Macbook Air uses sierra software os 14

Neither is available on the software driver site.  Where can I get the software that will work with my new macbook?

@paakre, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP LaserJet Pro MFP M130fn Compatibility with macOS!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It's possible to use older printers with newer computers, although there may be some compatibility issues or additional steps required for setup. Here are some suggestions to address the issue:

Driver and Software Download: Visit the HP support website to download the latest drivers and software compatible with your MacBook Air running macOS 14 (Sierra). HP frequently updates software to ensure compatibility with newer operating systems.

Using Automatic Updates: Try using HP Easy Start, a guided tool that helps you install the printer software and drivers on your Mac.

Checking Compatibility: Ensure that your macOS and the printer model are compatible. HP generally provides support for their products across different macOS versions. If your printer is listed, it should be compatible.

Alternative Connection Methods:

  • AirPrint: If your printer supports AirPrint, it can be used without additional software by setting it up directly from your Mac's settings.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
