HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e All-in-One Printer

My new HP Omnidesk computer won't recognize my HP Officejet Pro 9015e printer. HP Smart can't find it. I see it in my Printers on the computer but can't print and when I try, I get a "fax" window. However, I can print using my Surface laptop wirelessly. I have Bluetooth turned on and as far as I know, my wireless connectivity is good. Thoughts or suggestions on what to do before I toss computer out the window?

Hi @Jeff451,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your new HP Omnidesk computer detects the HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e as a fax instead of a printer, and HP Smart can’t find it. Let’s go through a few steps to get it working properly.

a. Restart All Devices
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the wall.
    • Restart your HP Omnidesk computer.
    • After 60 seconds, plug the printer back directly into the wall and turn it on.

b. Ensure Printer Is on the Same Wi-Fi Network
    • On the printer, go to Wi-Fi / Wireless Settings > Wireless Summary.
    • Make sure it shows Connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your HP computer.
    • If not, go to Wireless Setup Wizard and reconnect.

c. Remove Incorrect Printer/Fax Entries
    • On your Omnidesk PC, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click any entry that says Fax or 9015e Fax and select Remove device.
    • Also remove any duplicate printer entries.

d. Add the Printer Manually Using IP Address
    • On the printer, print a Network Configuration Page (from Reports/Wireless Settings).
    • On your PC, go to Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & Scanners > Add a Printer.
    • Select The printer I want isn’t listed > Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname.
    • Enter the printer’s IP address and follow the prompts.
    • When prompted for device type, select TCP/IP Device.

e. Set as Default Printer
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e (not Fax) and choose Set as Default Printer.

I hope this helps.
