Hi @Chloe164,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP printer PIN isn't working when adding it to your devices or setting it up, here are some steps you can follow.
Double-Check the PIN
- Where to find the PIN:
- Look at the printer's display or information sheet printed during the initial setup.
- It might also be printed on a sticker on the back or bottom of the printer.
- If you’re trying to connect via Wi-Fi, check for a Wireless Direct PIN in the printer menu.
- Common Errors:
- Ensure no extra spaces are entered if copying manually.
- Double-check for similar-looking characters (e.g., O vs. 0, I vs. 1).
Restart Printer and Device
- Turn off your printer and the device you're trying to connect (PC, phone, or tablet).
- Wait for 30 seconds before turning them back on.
- Try entering the PIN again.
Reset the PIN
If the PIN provided doesn't work:
- On the printer control panel, navigate to:
- Settings > Network Settings > Restore Network Defaults (or similar).
- Reprint the Wireless Network Test Report or Information Sheet. This will generate a new PIN if required.
Use HP Smart App for Easy Setup
- Download HP Smart App:
- Install the HP Smart App from your device's app store.
- Connect without a PIN:
- Use the app to locate and add your printer to your device.
- It may bypass the need for entering a PIN.
Printer Factory Reset (if nothing works)
- Caution: A factory reset will erase custom settings.
- Refer to your printer’s manual for reset instructions (usually found under Settings > Tools > Restore Factory Settings).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
