Try selecting Generic PCL Printer and try printing using the new print queue, may you then see any difference?

I tried your recommendation to uninstall and setup new HP software, it didn't make any change.
Then, I've tried Generic PCL option, it works but at a significant cost...now resolution is terrible and it is black&white only. I can't accept this as a permanent solution.

That did not work. Tried it a few times. It wouldn't even print the test page. The status box showed connected, then printing, then it went away - as a normally completed print job would - but without anything being printed. I then printed a word document as a test, and still comes out with symbols like at the image at the beginning of this thread. Other applications have same results, e.g. Acrobat.

I tried using Generic PCL, but way to many limitations. Had significant problems printing envelopes, and experienced same issues as user Turqueen. I'm sure there are other problems using that but quit looking, as the ones I found are enough to render the HP useless to my business needs.

Seeing the same problem too across my devices. Given the reports of multiple devices with different Mac versions it feels like the firmware version built on 2021-07-01 has a flaw with the fonts.
Seeing this from Big Sur 11.4 and Catalina 10.15 machines with the printer on the following firmware.
Firmware Version: MAVEDWPP1N001.2127A.00
Built Date: 2021-07-01
Hoping HP can fix this up quickly and sorry now that I had auto update my printer firmware on 😞

I concur that the problem is due to HP's update. Their lack of response or fix indicates their level of concern, or lack thereof for those using Mac OS. I am not even going to go into their lack of quality control evidenced by releasing an "update" for business class printers that effectively brick any printer used by customers that use any of the versions of Mac OS. I NEED my printer at work, and this is the 5th business day. Obviously not replacing with another HP, and my HP still isn't working.

Temporary solution
As a temporary solution using the direct hp printing option (aka ps driver) rather than AirPrint got me back online printing.
Full solution in progress.
I also went through the support channel and they suggested this too, and have a manual firmware update that apparently fixes this (I have not managed to install it yet to verify).
I did try to find out when they were likely to push this out over the standard web update, but they would not share this info.

I too, feel your pain. This exact same problem began for me last week after Apple updated both IOS and OS operating systems. After spending many hours troubleshooting I was able to print Office 365 documents from my desktop Mac to the HP 477 MFP using a wired connection and the HP driver suggested by the post above. For the most part I think Adobe printing is unaffected. Wireless printing to the 477 that I do from my notebook PC (Windows 10) is also normal. All print jobs to a different HP Laser printer are also normal.
I believe the issue is with the AirPrint drivers (OS for Macs and IOS for ipad/iphone) that may have changed with last week's updates that affect the HP477 MFP. I'm astonished that you and I are the only one's experiencing this very annoying problem as I see very little discussion otherwise. I'll continue to monitor this post and other online suggestions. Thanks for reporting it!
