HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w Printer

I have reports to print that are printed to legal size paper. My printer does not have a legal paper option and so it does not recognize that the reports need this size paper. The printer is causing the print preview to cut-off and the printing cut-off at 8.5 x 11" even when I load 8.5x14" paper. Why won't my printer recognize this size paper?

Hi @DevHutch,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Paper Size Setting in Printer Software:

  • Ensure that the paper size setting in your print driver or software application is correctly set to legal size (8.5 x 14 inches). This can often default to letter size (8.5 x 11 inches).

Printer Configuration:

  • On your printer, make sure the paper size is adjusted. You might need to change this through the printer settings menu.

Paper Tray Adjustment:

  • Ensure that the paper tray is adjusted to accommodate legal-size paper. There might be sliders or settings that need to be adjusted physically to ensure the printer recognizes the larger paper size.

Driver Update:

  • Verify that you have the latest printer driver installed. Sometimes, outdated drivers can result in incorrect paper size recognition.

Print Preview Settings:

  • Make certain that in your application software, the print preview settings are properly set to legal paper size.

Software Application:

  • When you print from your application software, check the page layout settings and ensure that they match the legal size requirements.

Steps in Windows:

  1. Go to “Devices and Printers”.
  2. Right-click on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w Printer and select “Printing Preferences”.
  3. In the preferences window, ensure that you select the correct paper size (8.5 x 14 inches).
  4. Apply the settings and try printing again.

Steps in macOS:

  1. Open “System Preferences” and navigate to “Printers & Scanners”.
  2. Select your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w Printer and click “Options & Supplies”.
  3. Under “Printer Settings”, ensure that the paper size is set to legal (8.5 x 14 inches).

I hope this helps.
