Hello,

My printer is an HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28a without wi-fi. There are only buttons CANCEL, COPY and ON/OFF.
After a successful firmware update, I see only rbx-load.
When I switching on the printer I have always the LEDs "Ready" and "Attention" lights ON.
Please send me the reset instructions for the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28a printer?
g.

@RuSlIdZe3101, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Based on your description, where the printer displays "rbx-load" after a firmware update and both "Ready" and "Attention" LEDs remain lit, this typically indicates a firmware corruption or bootloader issue.

Here's how you can proceed:

Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the wall and printer.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect and power it back on.
  • If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Attempt a USB Firmware Recovery

Since your printer does not have Wi-Fi, you’ll need to use a Windows PC and USB cable.

  1. Download the latest firmware for your printer:
  2. Run the firmware update tool:
    • Connect your printer via USB.
    • Launch the firmware updater.
    • If the printer is detected, proceed with the update.
    • If not detected, the printer may be in a non-recoverable state and will need service.

Reset the Printer (Factory Reset)

Unfortunately, the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28a does not have a built-in reset button or menu due to its minimal control panel. However, you can try this:

  • Unplug the printer, then press and hold the "Cancel" and "Copy" buttons.
  • While holding the buttons, plug the printer back in and continue holding for 10–15 seconds.
  • Release the buttons and see if the printer initializes normally.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello, unfortunately, this didn't help. The printer still appears in the Device Manager as HPrbx-load. Unfortunately, I'm unable to update the printer's firmware because it's not being detected correctly. I've tried the suggested methods several times, but unfortunately, it hasn't worked.
