Hi @Liquidbrain71,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your printer is powered on and connected, but your computer does not detect it, and print jobs do not start. Since both the printer and computer are on and your network is working, we first need to identify whether this is a connection, Windows detection, or printer communication issue.

Basic Checks

1. Check the Printer Status

  • Verify the printer display shows Ready.
  • Check for any error messages, warning icons, blinking lights, or paper/ink alerts.

2. Confirm the Connection Type

Please let us know whether the printer is connected by:

  • Wi‑Fi
  • Ethernet (network cable)
  • USB cable

3. Verify if Windows Sees the Printer

  1. Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Check whether the printer appears in the list.
  3. If it appears, let us know whether its status shows:
    • Ready
    • Offline
    • Error

4. Restart Both Devices

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Shut down the computer.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Turn the printer back on.
  5. Start the computer and check if the printer is detected.

5. If Connected by USB

  • Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.
  • Try a different USB port on the computer.
  • If available, test with another USB cable.

6. If Connected by Wi‑Fi

  • Confirm the printer and computer are connected to the same wireless network.
  • Check whether the printer has a valid IP address from the network settings menu.

Information Needed

To help identify the cause, please provide:

  1. Exact HP printer model (for example: HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e).
  2. Windows version (Windows 10 or Windows 11).
  3. Connection type (Wi‑Fi, Ethernet, or USB).
  4. Does the printer appear in Printers & scanners?
  5. What happens when you print?

Once we have the printer model, Windows version, connection type, and any error messages, we can provide the most accurate next steps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
