Hi @crackles47,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP ENVY Photo 7800 showing “DIRECT-61” and not connecting to Wi-Fi. Let’s go through a few checks.

Check the Current Wireless Status

  • On the printer control panel, tap the Wireless icon.
  • Verify whether Wireless is turned ON.
  • If it is OFF, tap Settings > Wireless Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard.
  • Select your home Wi-Fi network from the list.
  • Enter the Wi-Fi password and confirm.

Note: “DIRECT-61” indicates the printer is broadcasting Wi-Fi Direct, which is a temporary direct connection and not the home network.

Restart the Printer and Router

  • Turn off the printer using the Power button.
  • Unplug the power cable from the printer.
  • Turn off the Wi-Fi router and wait 60 seconds.
  • Turn the router back on and wait until internet lights stabilize.
  • Reconnect power to the printer and turn it back on.

Reconnect the Printer to the Network

  • On the printer screen, open Setup (gear icon).
  • Tap Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
  • Confirm the reset when prompted.
  • After the printer restarts, tap Wireless Setup Wizard again.
  • Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.

Reconnect the Printer Using the HP App

  • Open the HP app on your computer or phone.
  • Select Add Printer or + Add Device.
  • Choose HP ENVY Photo 7800 from the detected devices.
  • Follow the prompts to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

Verify the Printer Is Connected to the Same Network

  • On the printer, tap the Wireless icon.
  • Confirm the network name shown matches your home Wi-Fi.
  • Print a Network Configuration Report from Setup > Reports.
  • Check that the printer shows an IP address assigned by the router.

I hope this helps.
