HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

My HP Envy 4520 is only printing blue. I put in new cartridges, but that didn't resolve the issue. Previously, I had a similar issue that it wasn't printing black, and I followed the steps from the page linked below, but those steps didn't help this time. I also didn't see a way to clean my print heads - I don't know if that's the problem, but some posts I said gave directions to do that, but I didn't find any options to clean them. Any guidance you can provide is greatly appreciated 😃

Hi @Croyant,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's frustrating when your printer isn't working as expected, especially after trying various troubleshooting steps. Since you've already replaced the cartridges and encountered similar issues before, let's go through some additional steps to address the problem.

  • Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the new cartridges are properly installed. Make sure they are securely clicked into place.
  • Clean Print Heads: Even though you mentioned not finding a way to clean the print heads, it's worth checking again as this could be a crucial step. Many printers have a print head cleaning option in their settings. Look for this option in the printer software on your computer or on the printer's control panel.
  • Manual Print Head Cleaning: If your printer doesn't have an automatic print head cleaning option, you might be able to manually clean the print heads. You can usually find instructions for this in the printer's user manual. Be sure to follow the guidelines carefully to avoid damaging the print heads.
  • Nozzle Check/Test Page: Print a nozzle check or test page. This will help identify which colors are having trouble. If you see missing or faded colors, it's a sign that the print heads might be clogged.
  • Clogged Print Heads: Over time, print heads can become clogged with dried ink. If this is the case, you might need to use a dedicated print head cleaning solution. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for this process. Be cautious, as using the wrong cleaning solution or method could damage your printer.
  • Printer Maintenance: Some printers have a maintenance or service mode that provides advanced options for cleaning and calibrating. Check your printer's manual or the HP website for information on accessing this mode.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
