Hi. I am currently trying to setup my printer (which had been previously set up with same system) and when it asks for the PIN and I enter it, it doesn’t accept it. The printer and SN are correct and I am inputting the PIN exactly as it is on the tag. How may I fix this?

Hi @CathyCS0612

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your printer setup is rejecting the PIN, even though you're entering it correctly, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:

Verify the PIN:

  • Ensure you're entering the correct PIN from the printer's label or documentation.
  • Some PINs expire after a certain period. If this is the case, you may need to generate a new PIN.

Generate a New PIN:

  • Access the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering its IP address in a web browser.
  • Navigate to the Network Settings or Wi-Fi Setup section to generate a new PIN.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Try the setup process again.

Update Printer Firmware:

Use the HP Smart App:

  • Download the HP Smart app and use it to set up your printer. It may bypass the PIN issue.

Check Network Settings:

  • Ensure your printer and computer are connected to the same network.
  • If you're using a dual-band router, make sure both devices are on the same frequency (e.g., 2.4 GHz).
