Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I see from the post that you are having issues with the printer stuck on the screen "Now printing alignment page" on your HP OfficeJet printer. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?
Did you recently replace the Ink cartridges?
Are you using genuine HP Ink cartridges or refilled cartridges?
Have you tried to clean the ink cartridge contacts as well as clean the printhead using automated tool?
Basically, the printer will initiate the printer alignment process with the help of the ink cartridges. The process allows your ink cartridges to be calibrated with the documents that you wanted to print. So, if the alignment process does not finish, then chances are there is a problem with either the black or the tri color cartridge of your printer and not with the hardware.
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.
Please follow the step 2, 3 and 6 from the following support document - HP OfficeJet 4630, DeskJet 4640 Printers - Ink Cartridge Errors
If the printer did not print an alignment page, follow these steps:
-
On the printer control panel, press the Down Arrow (
) to select Tools, and then press OK.
-
Press the Down Arrow to select Align Printer, and then press OK. The printer prints a test page, and then prompts you to scan the page.
-
Lift the scanner lid, and then place the page on the glass according to the instructions on the alignment page.
-
Close the scanner lid, and then press OK.
Also follow the steps to clean the printhead using automated tool, and align the printer from the support link: HP Officejet 4630, Deskjet 4640 Printers - Fixing Poor Print Quality
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, please. Please note that I am not overloading you with a lot of troubleshooting steps. Instead, just like you, I am eager to ensure that the problem gets resolved. So I am providing you with more resources and information at your disposal to deal with the situation better.
