Hi @CN_1

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

May I know if the printer comes with instant ink cartridges? If yes, please let us know.

If you're encountering a message about a connectivity issue with the black setup cartridge on your HP printer and you're trying to complete the setup without enrolling in the Instant Ink subscription, here are a few steps you can follow to troubleshoot the issue and proceed with the setup:

1. Ensure Proper Installation of the Setup Cartridges

  • Double-check that the setup cartridges (both black and color) are properly installed in the printer. Sometimes, if they’re not seated correctly, it can trigger errors.
  • Open the printer’s ink cartridge access door and gently press the cartridges down until they click into place.
  • If the cartridges are installed correctly, close the door and check the display again.

2. Check for Cartridge Protective Tape

  • Ensure that the protective plastic tape has been removed from the black setup cartridge (and the color cartridge, if applicable).
  • Sometimes, if the tape is left on the cartridge, it can prevent proper contact with the printer and result in error messages.

3. Try Restarting the Printer

  • Turn off the printer, wait for about 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
  • Sometimes, a simple reset will allow the printer to recognize the cartridges and resolve connectivity issues.

4. Update Printer Firmware

  • If the printer is still showing issues after the setup, try updating the printer's firmware. Sometimes firmware updates resolve unexpected setup issues.
  • Go to HP Support and search for your printer model to download and install the latest firmware version.

May I know if you get any errors? If so, I request that you please share.

I hope this helps.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
