My printer will not go beyond this step in the loading sequence. I have tried the solutions suggested on the community forum (unplugging, removing ink, etc.) I have no way to connect so I cannot see if the software is up to date. Any help on how to reset my printer would be appreciated.

Hi @AAUSA,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Smart Tank 7602 printer is stuck during the loading sequence and you’ve already tried common solutions like unplugging and removing ink, performing a full reset may help. Here’s how you can reset your printer and attempt to get it working again:

Step-by-Step Guide to Reset Your Printer

1. Perform a Power Reset:

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then into the printer.
  • Turn on the printer using the power button.

2. Reset to Factory Defaults:

  • Sometimes, restoring the printer to its factory defaults can resolve persistent issues. This process can vary slightly depending on the model, but generally:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Press and hold the “Resume” button (this might be the “Cancel” or “Stop” button on some models).
    • While holding the “Resume” button, press the “Power” button and hold both buttons for a few seconds.
    • Release the “Resume” button while continuing to hold the “Power” button.
    • Press the “Resume” button twice, then release both buttons. The printer should enter a reset mode and then restart.

3. Update Firmware via USB:

  • If the printer is stuck and you cannot connect it to the network to update the firmware, you might be able to update it using a USB flash drive:
    • Download the latest firmware for your printer model from the HP Support website.
    • Copy the firmware file to a USB flash drive.
    • Insert the USB flash drive into the printer’s USB port.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware.

4. Check for Hardware Issues:

  • Make sure there are no paper jams or obstructions inside the printer.
  • Ensure that all ink cartridges are properly installed and that there is no debris or dirt on the contacts.
  • Check for any error messages on the printer’s display and consult the user manual for specific troubleshooting steps related to those errors.

5. Service Menu Reset:

  • Some printers have a hidden service menu that can be accessed for advanced resets:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Press and hold the “OK” button, the “Help” button, and the “Back” button (or similar combination specific to your model).
    • Turn on the printer while holding these buttons.
    • Release the buttons when the service menu appears, and select the reset option if available.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
