We received an HP 7740 printer and have connected it to our network via ethernet cable with a static IP address. We'd like to allow Macs to print to it using the IP address but need to have the printer driver for the Macs. The only driver available on the HP website is the "Easy Start" package that goes out and tries (unsuccessfully) to find the printer. I just want the driver all by itself.  Is there a way to download just the driver?

Hello, thank you for the reply.

Unfortunately this isn't working for us. We are not using wifi printing and when I attempt to run the Easy Start app it fails because it can't find the printer. The HP Smart for Desktop app allowed me to enter the IP address but the printer again was not located. It just timed out. The printer has its own static IP address but it is not on the same network as the computers (some computers will be connected with wireless network - but the printer absolutely will not have wifi printing enabled).

NOTE: I can successfully pull up the web page for this printer on a Mac that's on a different sub network. So the Mac can see the printer - in fact I could add it with a Generic Printer Driver - but neither HP Smart for Desktop nor Easy Start apps can "see" the printer and install the driver.

Is there a way to just install the driver by itself? I don't understand why it's tied to an app that insists on one specific way to connect. If the printer and the computer aren't on the same sub network then it won't work? Our Macs have no problem printing to other HP printers on our network.
