HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a
Microsoft Windows 11

I have an Officejet Pro 8600 N911a printer.  When I go to the HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a Embedded Web Server and try to make changes to the Settings, it asks me for the Username and Password.  I found out that the username I want to use is "admin".  What is the password?  The display on the printer is not working but as far as I can tell everything else is working.  Is there another way to find out the password apart from using the display on the printer?

Hi @fhschmid

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Since your HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a display isn’t working, resetting the admin password without using the printer screen can be tricky, but there are a few methods to try.

1. Try Default Credentials

  • Some HP printers use default login credentials:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: admin, 123456, or 000000
    • If the printer was set up with a Wi-Fi password, try using that.

2. Reset the Printer via HP Smart App

  • Download HP Smart on your computer or mobile device.
  • Connect to the printer and access Advanced Settings.
  • Navigate to SecurityRestore Factory Defaults.
  • This will reset the password to default.

3. Perform a Semi-Full Reset (Resets Password)

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Press and hold the back arrow (↩️) button on the touch panel.
  • While holding it, turn on the printer.
  • Keep holding the button until the reset menu appears.
  • Select Semi-Full Reset and confirm.
  • The printer will restart, and the admin password will be removed.

4. Use HP Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  • Open a web browser and enter your printer’s IP address (found on your router settings).
  • Navigate to SettingsSecurityPassword Settings.
  • If prompted for a password, try the default ones listed above.

I tried using the HP Smart app on my windows computer and there is no Advanced Settings on the Printer page.  I clicked on the Printer Settings and found Advanced Settings there.  I clicked on it and it took me to the Embedded Web Server.  There is no Security tab there.

The default credentials do not work.

The third option suggested uses the display which I mention is not working on my printer.

Any other suggestions?
