HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw

I need to reset password on the printer so that I can do a factory reset.  All discussions about this have had private messages sent and no access for someone that just wants to get her printer working again.

Help please.

Hi @Jack_1977,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Resetting the password on a printer usually involves accessing the printer's web interface or control panel settings. Here are general steps that you can follow for the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw.

  1. Access the Printer's Web Interface:

    • Make sure your printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
    • Find the IP address of your printer by printing a configuration page. You can usually do this by pressing a combination of buttons on the printer's control panel. Refer to the printer's manual for instructions.
    • Open a web browser and enter the printer's IP address in the address bar.
  2. Log In to the Web Interface:

    • If prompted for a username and password, try using the default credentials. These are often found in the printer's manual. Common default usernames are "admin" or "administrator," and passwords may be blank or "admin."
    • If you can't find the default credentials, check the printer's manual or search online for the default login information for your specific model.
  3. Navigate to Security Settings:

    • Once logged in, look for a "Security" or "Settings" tab.
    • Navigate to the password or security settings section.
  4. Change the Password:

    • In the security settings, you should find an option to change the password. Enter a new password of your choice.
    • Save or apply the changes.
  5. Perform Factory Reset:

    • After changing the password, you should be able to perform a factory reset using the updated credentials.
    • Look for a "Restore Factory Defaults" or "Reset" option in the printer's settings.

Please note that performing a factory reset will erase all settings on the printer, including network configurations and custom settings. Make sure to set up the printer again after the reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Jack_1977,

Thank you for your response,

Performing a hard reset on a printer typically involves clearing the settings and returning it to its factory default state. Keep in mind that this process might vary slightly depending on the printer model. For the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw, you can try the following steps.

  • Power off the printer: Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cable from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for a while: Allow the printer to remain powered off for a few minutes. This ensures that any residual power is discharged.
  • Press and hold the power button: While keeping the power button pressed, reconnect the power cable to the printer.
  • Continue holding the button: Keep the power button pressed for about 15-20 seconds after reconnecting the power cable.
  • Release the power button: After holding the power button for the specified time, release it.
  • Power on the printer: Turn on the printer using the power button.

This process should perform a hard reset on the printer, and it should revert to its factory default settings. Keep in mind that this will erase any custom settings, including the password.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

After giving up on this bring up the ticket again. tried it like 10 times with no luck where it normally boots up. Any other way to Factory Reset the printer?

Just to clarify it is showing "Secure" on the top right of the display if it helps.
