I need to uninstall the software for my HP Envy 7640 printer (prompted to do so by HP Print and Scan Doctor to fix a problem). But I'm unable to do the uninstall of the Basic Device Software -- when I try I get the message "'a caller of DriverPackageInstall must be a member of the Administrators group to install a driver package." I am the sole user of my p.c., and I do have admin rights per control panel -> user accounts -> manage accounts. Can anyone help me past this problem? Thank you!

@Jmellow Welcome to HP Community!
I understand that you are unable to uninstall the software.
Do not worry. I will try to fix the issue.
Please perform the below steps to uninstall the software root level.
Press "Windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window.
Type "services.msc" to get Services - Go to "Print spooler" - Right-click and "Stop" the service.
Now again open "Run" - Type "spool" and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
Now check for issue resolution.
If the issue persists, unplug the USB cable from the printer (if present).
Go to Control panel - Programs and feature - Select all the HP printer entries and uninstall them.
Now go to Control panel - Devices and printer - Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
Again, go to the Run window, type - "c:/programdata" - Go to the Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
Restart your computer.

Hi.
I have the same problem with my Envy 5546.
Wouldn't print, told me there was no drivers.
Couldn't install new drivers, couldn't uninstall to old software.
Followed your directions, but when reaching
"If the issue persists, unplug the USB cable from the printer (if present).
Go to Control panel - Programs and feature - Select all the HP printer entries and uninstall them."
I can't uninstall the basic drivers, am told I must be a member of the administrators group. When I then go "printui.exe /s" it tells me the driver is in use.
Please help! & Why has this suddenly started happening?

I am having the same problem with my Envy 5544 First both myself and my daughter couldn't print in colour Took ages to resolve and now we cannot print at all We cannot delete the basic drivers despite both being administrator on our own laptop Tried creating an admin account on daughters laptop and that doesn't allow this either Both laptops less than 2 years old Not happy
