HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I had to reinstall my printer, an HP Envy 4520, on a different PC, but it didn't complete the install.  It says I don't have a driver, and I can't locate one for my printer.

@Sommer5,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Have you tried the driver update options here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-envy-4520-all-in-one-printer-series/5447920:

Here's a more detailed step-by-step guide to help you to resolve the driver issue for your HP Envy 4520 printer:

Steps to Fix:

  1. Download the Driver from HP's Website:

    • Alternatively, go to: HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads.
    • Enter your printer model (HP Envy 4520) in the search box.
    • Select your operating system (Windows 11) if not auto-detected.
    • Download the Full Feature Software and Driver package for the printer.
  2. Run the Installer:

    • After downloading, run the installer file and follow the on-screen instructions.
    • During the setup, ensure the printer is powered on and connected to the PC (via USB or Wi-Fi).
  3. Use the HP Smart App (Another Alternative):

    • If the full driver is unavailable or if you prefer a simpler setup, install the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store (Windows).
    • The app will automatically detect and guide the installation of the printer.
  4. Troubleshoot Driver Issues:

    • If the driver installation fails, do:
      • Uninstall any partially installed printer software via Apps & Features (Windows).
      • Restart your PC and try reinstalling the driver.
  5. Check Windows Update (Windows):

    • In Windows, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates. This might auto-install the driver.
  6. Manual Driver Installation (if necessary):

    • If the downloaded driver still doesn't work, manually add the printer:
      • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add a Printer.
      • Choose the appropriate port and follow the manual setup steps.

Additional Notes:

  • If you are still stuck, connect the printer directly via USB to simplify the process and rule out connection issues.
  • Please, only download drivers from HP's official website to avoid malware.

Let me know if you need clarification or additional suggestions!

Kind Regards,
