In another post, a fellow customer wrote:
I recently got the printer from a family member. As I was setting up the printer, it immediately said, that I have to insert the Setup-cartridges to finish the setup.
I couldn‘t find the cartridges in the box - so I assume, that they are lost.
is there any way to finish the setup without the setup cartridges or can I buy them in any chance? I really want to use the printer…
Unlike the other person, my printer is an HP OfficeJet 8010e. I would like to use the printer, but I do not have the setup cartridges either. HP's "SandyTechy" responded to the other customer that a way could be provided that would allow to bypass the setup of the printer with the setup cartridges. If there is a way to do that, that is fine. But, whether I purchase new setup cartridges or I bypass the process somehow, I would appreciate any help.
Thank you!

I see that you are facing an issue with setting up your Printer.
Kindly refer to the steps from the below image to set up your printer with trade ink cartridges.

Hi Irwin6...
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my support issue. Unfortunately, your solution does not work on my HP OfficeJet 8015e printer.
I proceeded as you suggested and installed the store-bought official HP ink cartridges. After a bit, the screen on the printer, once again, stated to "use setup cartridges". There is no "home" or "back arrow" keys on the screen, as described in your solution.
As I mentioned in my post, I do not have "setup cartridges," so I am unable to use the printer. If you have any other ideas as to how I might be able to setup my printer, I would very much appreciate hearing from you.
Thank you,

Hi @20eagle20,
Yes you are right about not seeing the back or the home as mentioned above.
However, you just need to follow the above steps even when you dont see the options for back and home.
You just need to touch the spot where you see the back and the home screen as in the image to override the use of setup ink cartridges.

Hello again Irwin6,
I appreciate your willingness to try to help me, but your solution simply does not work. Frankly, I find it a bit odd that an "Hp Support Agent" would suggest this solution. With the home and back arrows not visible, even with pushing on those areas where they should be located, nothing happens, nor would I expect anything to happen. That's really not the way technology works.
I am a 25-year senior-level IT Support veteran and retiree of HP. If this printer is an example of what HP is turning out nowadays, it is quite disconcerting for me.
Although I appreciate your willingness to try to help me, I can no longer spend time on this printer, when the solutions you present simply make no sense and do not work, which also causes me to wonder whether or not your are truly an HP employee. If you are, then HP products and technical support has most assuredly devolved since my employment with the company.
I will have to buy a non-HP printer, as I can no longer spend time on this.
Thank you,
20eagle20

Hi @20eagle20,
Am sorry to hear that the above steps did not help to override the use of setup ink cartridges for initial setup of your printer.
This issue might require one-on-one interaction to fix it.
