Officejet 8740
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

My networked 8740 all-in-one has gone irretrievably offline since I recently installed a Bitdefender 2019 product update on my connected devices. I've not experienced this problem with prior versions of Bitdefender. This failure affects a wired WIN 8.1 device, a wifi WIN 8.1 device, and a wifi Android device. While Bitdefender support has me renaming .dll files in their program files (not encouraging) to no avail, is there anything I can/should do re:  HP firmware re-installs or updates that might help? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi,

Try temporarily disabling BitDefender Firewall and Real-time Protection, also follow below utility once your security program is disabled and check if you can print then:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe

Enable your security program and try printing, if you can no longer print once it is enabled please contact BitDefender support, you would likely need to add the HP software to the exceptions list of BitDefender to prevent if from blocking your printer.

ShlomiL: Thanks for pointing me back to the Scan Doctor utility. Network printing/scanning has been restored. Bitdefender support (I guess to their credit) took responsibility for the problem, but never proposed a working solution. In fact, when I asked their tech if he wanted specifics on the network printer during our lengthy session, he emphatically dismissed my question as irrelevant to fixing the problem. Kind of annoying for those of us with more common sense than technical expertise. I appreciate your help, and happy holidays.
