New 2855e printer and i don't want to have to turn on hotspot/internet to print directly from pc.

I have a new HP 2855e printer and it won't print directly from PC via USB cable, unless i turn on Hotspot on Android. I don't want to have to turn on mobile hotspot, to use the printer.

Presumably HP Smart works with a USB connection -- I've never seen it.

Two options if you don't have a network (controlled by a router):

1)  Wi-Fi Direct - Wireless connection between PC and printer using the printer's wireless radio

HP printer setup (Wi-Fi Direct)

and

HP+ User Guide 

OR

2)  Download / save / install the full feature software / full driver printer software

HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts.  The full driver generally adds at one, possibly least one, possibly more shortcuts to the Desktop: Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and/or HP Scan.

NOTES:  HP Scan is not installed if the printer does not support Scan. The Printer Assistant is not installed if the type of full driver software does not support it.  If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver. No Sign-in required.

If using a printer USB cable between the printer and the computer, disconnect the cable before installing the printer software.

If asked, opt for the Full Driver to be installed.

Installation

Open File Explorer

Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation file (likely Downloads)

Right-Click on the installation package and “Run as Administrator”

If using a printer USB cable between the printer and the computer, connect the cable when instructed (near the end of the installation).

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

Thank you for the information, I appreciate your responding to my question.  I'll check and see if I can figure this out, (that's a lot of info and I'm nearly illiterate, technically.) According to the info that came with the printer, and the fact that I have a USB cord plugged into the printer, I should be able to use this without turning on my Android phone's Hotspot connection. We'll see.
