Hello, just tried setting up a Brand New (old stock) HP Photosmart 7360.
Unwrapped printer, installed new start-up cartridges HP02 ink, printer says Please Wait...
Stage 1/3
Completing Cycly 1/3
Time remaining: 4:01.. but around 3:00 is says Ink System Failure.
Ink System has failed, Unable to print.
Error: 0xc18a3e02.
I have the side of the printer opened, tried everything, even removing the white ribbons etc..
All the usual turn on and off, remove power etc.. Tried putting in brand new cartridges, but because it was during initilization, it wants only the start up cartridges back in.
I am assuming it's because the start up cartridges are old and the error is caused by cartridge not supplying enough ink to the printhead. That is what the 0x represents??

Hi @ItsMe25 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting Error code 0xc18a3e02 on HP printers usually indicates an Ink System Failure. This error can occur due to various reasons including outdated firmware, ink cartridge issues, printhead problems, or even internal hardware malfunctions.
Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
- Reset the printer: Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer while it is still turned on. Wait for about a minute, then reconnect the power cord. Turn on the printer and check if the error persists.
- Check ink cartridges: Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and seated in their respective slots. Make sure there are no obstructions or protective tapes left on the cartridges. If the cartridges are old, try replacing them with new ones.
- Clean printhead: If the printer has a removable printhead, remove it and clean it carefully with a lint-free cloth and distilled water. Be gentle to avoid damaging the printhead. Allow it to dry completely before reinserting it into the printer.
- Update firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model on the HP support website. Updating the firmware may resolve compatibility issues and bugs causing the error. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Perform a partial reset: Some HP printers have a partial reset option that can be accessed by pressing specific buttons on the control panel in a particular sequence. Refer to the printer's user manual or HP's support website for instructions on how to perform a partial reset.

Hi, Thank you for the reply, I ended up throwing out the Brand New HP 7360, it's such a shame.
Now I just bought a brand new sealed c8180 and during the initialization the same thing happened, but the error code is 0xc18a2a02. Tried
I don't know how to remove the printhead, but it looks like you have to take a lot apart of the body of the printer.
I did however find the service spot by hitting Print Photos and Red Eye Removal, there I was able to get to the Resets menu to do a semi-full reset, but still the error code 0xc18a2a02 stays up.
I keep buying new sealed printers to get them to work, but almost everytime there is an error with the initialization of the start-up inks. I understand they are back from 2009 but there is clearly enough ink in the start-up cartridges to produce.
I can't update firmware because the start here manual says "do not connect the USB cable until section A, I don't get that far ever.... So now what do I do with this new C8180?
I also bought a brand new HP C5180, I afraid to run the start-up. I have over 300 HP02 ink cartridges and love the photosmart original printers, but can't seem to get any of them to work.
