HP LaserJet MFP M234dwe Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I started setting up my new HP LaserJet M234dwe yesterday. I have used "HP Smart" software on my iPhone. "HP Smart" located the printer over Bluetooth, and I connected the printer to my Wi-Fi and went to the last step in the setup wizard (print test). The print test failed (nothing was printed, and no error was displayed on the printer). I then clicked on the Scan button on the printer to see if that works, and it scanned and printed several copies.

After that, I turned off the printer (with the button) and turned on again. It displayed the waiting animation on the screen (the zero digit is drawn endlessly), then in a few seconds the "I" button was highlighted, then in 6-7 seconds, the "X" button was highlighted. At the same time, the bar on the front of the printer is pulsing blue. And it stays in this state forever ("X" button, animated zero digit on the screen and pulsing blue bar). No buttons work except the power button. I cannot select anything in the menu, cannot select "X" + wireless, cannot print the information page by clicking on the "I" button. "HP Smart" do not see my printer connected to the router. When I power it off (tried with button, disconnecting power cord when it is turned off, disconnecting power cord when it is turned on, disconnecting power cord for 1 minute, 2 hours), and turn on again, it just starts displaying the same thing again.

I tried connecting it to the router with a wire - the LAN indicator blinkthe s, but router does not assign the IP to the printer. I tried connecting it to my Windows 10 laptop with a USB cable and running HP Smart, HP Easy Start, HP Print and Scan Doctor. None of this software can locate the printer.

It is worth noting that I have turned on the printer the first time, then was distracted for about 2 hours, then got back to it and started setting up WI-FI. I wonder if in the middle of the setup process, I got past the 120 minutes WI-FI setup period. Also, when "HP Smart" was trying to do a print test, it prompted me with the Login/Password and OK/Cancel button. As I did not have an idea of which login/password it needed, I just clicked on the OK button. I guess it asked for the admin/PIN of the printer, but I did not know the printer has one at that time.

Right now, I am looking for a way to reset this printer to an initial state, where I can again connect to it through Bluetooth and rerun the HP Smart setup. I could not locate the working "factory reset" procedure on the Internet.

Hopefully, someone can assist me with this issue.

Thanks,

Siarhei.

You can refer to this Knowledge base article on resetting the wifi to connect to a new router as that takes the printer back to initial setup condition. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printers-Knowledge-Base/How-to-Restore-WiFi-Setup-mode-on-HP-printers-...

Thanks for your answer. I have tried that, and that did not work as none of the buttons are responsive. Just the red cross button is lit all the time.

I have finally managed to reset the printer to a state when I can set it up with the HP Smart app. I had to press on X + wireless button at the very start of the printer loading, if I was doing it later, it did not work. I have then set up the printer successfully with the HP Smart app. Thanks for your help!
