Has anyone been able to find a successful method to initialize a new HP Photosmart D7460, D7260 or D7360 printer?  The setup inks that are included with the new uninitialized printer have expired, therefore the initialization process fails with an ink system failure error.

@Jxwjxw, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Printer Initialization for HP Photosmart D7460/D7360!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand that you're experiencing issues initializing a new HP Photosmart D7460 or D7360 printer due to expired setup inks. Here are some steps that may help you resolve the initialization process:

Check Expired Inks: Ensure that you are using the correct setup ink cartridges that came with the printer. Using regular or refilled cartridges can lead to initialization errors.

Replace Expired Cartridges: Obtain new setup ink cartridges that are not expired. You may need to contact HP support or your local HP reseller to get the appropriate cartridges. If the setup cartridges have expired, initialization cannot proceed successfully, and the ink system failure error will appear.

Initialize with New Setup Cartridges: After acquiring new setup ink cartridges, install them in the printer.

Steps to install cartridges:

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Wait for the print carriage to move to the center.
  • Remove the expired setup cartridges.
  • Insert the new setup cartridges into the corresponding slots, matching the color icons and firmly snapping them into place.
  • Close the cartridge access door.
  1. Complete Initialization: Follow any additional prompts on the printer screen to complete the initialization process.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thank you for the reply.  Considering that HP has discontinued manufacturing 02 ink cartridges, are there sets of unexpired 02 setup cartridges available from HP?  Is there a phone number or link that can be used to contact HP support regarding the setup cartridges?

I entered the serial number in the HP support site in contact us.  The printer is listed as a retired product and does not allow me to go any further in requesting HP support.  It says that for support content, I can go to HP forums or third party web sites.
