HP Photosmart e-All-in-One Printer - D110a
macOS 12.0 Monterey

I can't get my new MacBook Air to print on my HP OfficeJet 3830 All-In-One printer. I keep getting an error message: Expired Certificate - Check printer for errors.

My old MacBook printed on it fine. My husband's 3 year old MacBook prints on it and both our cell phones print on it.

I did notice that my husband's printer driver is a version 3 and the one on my new MacBook driver is a Version 4.

Has anyone had this happen and were able to fix it?

Thanks!

Hi @Victoria1952

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Expired Certificate" error on your HP OfficeJet 3830 when printing from your new MacBook Air can be frustrating. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for updates using the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP support website.

Remove and Re-add the Printer:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your HP printer and click the minus (-) button to remove it.
  • Click the plus (+) button to re-add the printer. Make sure to select the appropriate driver during this process (Version 3 if it's available).

Use AirPrint:

  • If your printer supports AirPrint, use that option when adding the printer. It might bypass issues related to specific drivers.

Reset Printing System:

  • In Printers & Scanners, right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list and select Reset printing system. This will remove all printers and reset your printing settings. After this, add your printer again.

Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure both your MacBook and printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. You can print a network configuration page from the printer to verify.

Create a New User Account:

  • As a test, create a new user account on your MacBook and see if you can add the printer and print from that account. This can help identify if the issue is account-specific.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
