I have a new (refurbished) MacBook Pro 2019 running Mac OS Monterey 12.2.1.
I have a Netgear C7000-100NAS router with firmwear V1.01.32
My printer is an HP Office Jet 5260. It has a wired connection to the router.
The printer worked perfectly with my HP laptop. Not so much with the MacBook.
Using the MacBook, the printer will not duplex print, nor will it print in black and white instead of color. The paper size defaults to postcard.
I feel like it's just a matter of changing a setting somewhere to fix the problem, but I don't know what it is that needs to be changed. Can someone help?

Hi @missbev,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I'd like to help!
I understand you are unable to duplex print and print in black.
Try the below suggestions-
1) Are you able to copy in black?
2) What's the application you are trying to print from? Have you tried printing from a different application or devices?
Meanwhile, try the below suggestions -
Set up a two-sided (duplex) printing job from a Mac computer with an HP printer.
-
To avoid page ordering issues, load enough paper into the paper tray to complete your print job.
NOTE:To avoid paper jams, do not print on both sides of envelopes, photo paper, glossy paper, or transparencies. Do not print on paper lighter than 60 g/m2 (16 lb) or heavier than 105 g/m2 (28 lb).
-
Determine if you want the pages to read as a booklet or a tablet.

Description
1
Booklet layout
2
Tablet layout
-
Open the document, click File > Print, and then click Show Details.
-
If the Two-Sided setting is available, select the checkbox to enable it. Then from the unnamed print options menu, select Layout, select Long-Edge binding for booklet layout or Short-Edge binding for tablet layout from the Two-Sided menu, and then click Print.
-
If the Two-Sided setting is not available, continue to the next step.
-
-
From the unnamed print options menu, select Paper Handling, and then select Odd Only from the Pages to Print menu.
-
Depending on your printer type, select an option from the Page Order menu.
-
Paper input tray is at the front of the printer: Select Reverse
-
Paper input tray is at the top rear of the printer: Select Automatic
-
-
Click Print.
-
After the first side prints, remove any remaining unprinted paper from the input tray.
-
Remove the printed pages from the output tray, and then reload them into the input tray.
-
Paper input tray is at the front of the printer: Load the pages printed side up with the top edge in for booklet layout or bottom edge in for tablet layout.
-
Paper input tray is at the top rear of the printer: Load the pages printed side down with the top edge in for booklet layout or bottom edge in for tablet layout.
-
-
Return to the document print settings and select Even Only from the Pages to Print menu.
-
Select an option from the Page Order menu.
-
Paper input tray is at the front of the printer: Select Normal
-
Paper input tray is at the top rear of the printer: Select Automatic
-
-
Click Print.
Duplex settings might carry over to the next print job. To change back to one-sided printing, remove the check next to Two-Sided or select All pages from the Pages to Print menu.
Change print settings on your Mac from the app you are printing from.
-
Open a document, photo, or webpage, click File > Print to open the Print window.
-
Make sure your printer is selected, and then click Show Details if it displays to access the print settings available for your printer.
-
Click the drop-down menu in the center of the window to change the settings category and access all available settings.
-
Color or black and white: Select the selection from Black & White on the main dialog. The Presets menu also includes color and black and white options.
-
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I'll certainly go through all your suggestions to make sure all those settings are correct. Thank you for them.
Here's what I have found so far: printing from an application such as Word or Excel works fine. To print a pdf, if I download it and then print from HPSmart, it prints fine. Automatic duplex works fine. Print in grayscale or b&w works fine.
The problem I have now has been narrowed down to printing from a webpage or an email, in which case, pages do not print duplex and they always print color.
I'll let you know after I have tried your suggestions. Thank you again.

Thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately, the suggestions for black & white printing is what I've already tried. The duplex method you suggested does not use the printer's built-in duplex properties. I would prefer to be able to use those.
We've made progress, though, now that I know to use HPPrint. At this point, if I can figure out how to print from the internet using b&w and duplex, I'll be all good. Thanks.

Could you try duplex and printing in black from a different browser(safari or firefox)?
This is to make sure it's not a browser issue.
