My new Dell laptop uses an ARM‑based Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. So the HP driver download will not install. It just says "unsuccessful". The HP website no longer recognizes my all-in-one printer serial number, and says it's not valid. My HP OfficeJet 4632 will print, but the scanner is not recognized. Microsoft tells me this is a common problem with no solution. Is this true? Do I have no choice but to buy a new scanner? If so, you can bet it won't be an HP. Frustrating lack of customer service.

Hi @JackB62,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused and don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Which version of Windows is running on your new laptop (Windows 11 Home/Pro, etc.)?
  • Did the scanner work previously on another device, and if so, which operating system was that?
  • Are you connecting the printer via USB or Wi‑Fi?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try in the meantime:

  1. Windows Scan App: Sometimes the built‑in Windows Scan app can detect scanners even when HP’s full driver package doesn’t install. Please check if it recognizes your OfficeJet 4632.
  2. Windows Update Drivers: Go to Settings → Windows Update → Advanced Options → Optional Updates and see if Windows offers a generic scanner driver.
  3. HP Smart App: Download the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store. It often provides basic scanning functionality even when the traditional drivers aren’t supported.
  4. Compatibility Mode: If you’re trying to install the HP driver package, right‑click the installer, choose Properties → Compatibility, and set it to run in Windows 10 mode. This sometimes helps with ARM devices.
  5. Check Device Manager: Open Device Manager and look under Imaging Devices. If the scanner shows up with a yellow warning icon, uninstall it and let Windows reinstall automatically.

I hope this helps.
