Deskjet 3775
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I bought a new deskjet 3775 and cannot connect to my windows 10 desktop computer using usb. It says it cannot connect to wireless router. Where do I check for printer network name? And wireless router network name? I am beyond frustrated!

You are doing it wrong. Have you read the user manual on how to connect?

It's actually very simple if you follow the steps, but gets very complicated if you are doing it on your own.

The printer should work, of course.

So, yes - In general, if what you are doing is not working, explore whether there is something else you can try.

Ideas / Places to look for help and information...

The printer supports 2.4GHz wireless.

If you are using a Dual Band router,

Make sure the router is broadcasting on both frequencies.

If at all possible, create (on the router) a separate SSID named network for each frequency.

Connect the printer to the SSID network for 2.4GHz.

The router will direct traffic between the devices on the network - no need to have everything on one bandwidth.

Example

Where to look for help

There is a lot of information here:

Start

 Wireless printing center

For example,

Wireless Center > Section: Common Questions > Topic Connection Issues

Section: Improve Wireless communication by setting a manual (static) IP address

Wireless printing center  > Printer Setup > Wi-Fi Direct

Wireless Printing Center – Static IP Address

AND

Wireless Printing Center > Common Questions > Wireless Connection Issues

Some of the more common remedies are grouped here:

Wireless Printing Center > Common Questions > Printer no longer works on network

For example:

Wireless Center > Section: Common Questions > Topic Printer no longer works on network

Section:  Mesh Networks

Do you mean by using the usb cord? How do I restart?  It didn’t come with a user manual.

Not sure what this means:

How do I restart?

Printer is restarted using the on / off switch.

Windows 10 can be Restarted from Windows Start > Click Power icon > Select Restart

====================================================================

Printer does have a user manual:

The User Guide

The User Guide provides a chapter on How to Connect

Chapter 7 - Connect your printer - Starting on Page 55

Network connection issues are addressed on Page 86

The network name is the SSID named network that you configure on the router used to control your network.

Read about SSID and network connection name in the user guide and in the articles at the Wireless printing center

====================================================================

If you want to connect the printer using a USB cable between the printer and the computer, you can do so.

Using a USB cable is NOT a wireless connection, of course.

The printer does not come with a USB printer cable - you'll have to purchase one.

There is no "user manual" for a USB printer cord.

There are instructions if you do want to connect your printer using this method.

HP printer setup (USB cable)

====================================================================

Decide whether you want to connect the printer to your network.

If yes,

Disconnect any USB cable between the printer and the computer.

Review at least some of the information in the  Wireless printing center to better understand what you need / want to do.

One thing that can make things more difficult,

If you intend to connect the printer to your home network,

Make sure that Wi-Fi Direct is switched OFF - The switch is a toggle on the printer to switch Wi-Fi on/off.

What else?

Page 57 describes the method to connect the printer during the installation of the printer software.

The full driver printer software can be installed using the Easy Start Software wrapper.

For example...

The full driver provides the foundation on which other programs and printing software depend.

Printer Software - Preparation

If you have not done so,

In addition to the HP Smart application,

Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software for the printer.

HP Smart and other print software / applications benefit from having the full driver installed.

Printer Software Check

Notes

If the full driver printer software is installed, you will see the printer listed in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features.

The installation of the printer software adds two shortcut icons to the Desktop.

The Printer Assistant is named for the printer and provides access to Print , Scan , and Tools

HP Scan is named for itself and provides a direct call to the HP Scan software.

Programs_and_Features_Printer_Desktop_Icons_3Programs_and_Features_Printer_Desktop_Icons_3

Printer software not installed?

Method - Use the Easy Start Wrapper to Install the Full Feature / Full Driver Software

For printers that support the option,

Use the Easy Start wrapper to install and configure the printer software.

  • Home Page - HP Easy Start
  • Open Category Software and Drivers
  • Topic: Software-Utility
  • Download-and-Save  the current version of the Easy Start wrapper to install your print software
  • If using USB:  Disconnect the USB cable between the printer and computer before installing the software.
  • Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
  • When asked, Select to install the “Full Driver” / “Full Feature Software”
  • If using USB:  Connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the end of the installation process).
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Notes >> Easy Start... The Journey

  1. Full Administrator Rights are required to complete the HP Software installation.
  2. About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full Driver" set (as opposed to the basic driver or other application).
  3. You can skip / ignore suggestion(s) that you add the HP Account – you’ll need the account at some point, for now, you can skip this suggestion (as many times as it insists it’s a good idea) during the full driver software installation.
  4. If you see it, you can skip / ignore suggestion(s) regarding Instant Ink subscription.  Instant Ink subscription is NOT mandatory.
  5. Disconnect from Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection while installing printer software.
  6. Full driver includes print and scan functions supported by your printer and provides the printer features on which other applications / software might depend.

What if?

Honestly, I think I cannot explain this in the detail you might need.

There is a good chance I am missing the point.

If I have anything else to offer, I will post back.

Good luck.

I took it back to Target, I couldn’t handle the stress it was causing! But I am going to buy an HP Envy 6052 later today . I hope I can install it quickly and easily.
