I just got the HP8139e and it copies fine in color but prints from multiple computers in black and white when I print from web or word

Hi @MrsMeika

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Your HP OfficeJet Pro 8139e Wireless All-in-One Printer is capable of color printing, and since copying works in color, the issue is likely due to driver settings or application-specific print defaults.

Let’s walk through how to restore full color printing from Word and web browsers.

Step-by-step actions to enable color printing

Check printer properties on each computer

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Right-click your HP 8139e > Printing Preferences
  • Under the Color tab or Paper/Quality, ensure Color is selected (not “Black & White” or “Grayscale”)
  • Click Apply and OK

Verify application-specific settings

  • In Word:
    • Go to File > Print > Printer Properties
    • Confirm that Color is selected under Print Quality or Advanced
  • In Web browsers:
    • Press Ctrl + P, then click More Settings
    • Ensure Color is selected under Print in color

Reinstall the full-feature driver

Check HP App settings

  • Open the HP App on your computer
  • Go to Settings > Print Preferences
  • Confirm that Color printing is enabled

Run HP’s Diagnose & Fix tool

Let me know if the issue persists after reinstalling the driver or if you'd like help verifying settings on a specific operating system.

You’ve done everything right by checking across multiple apps, and we’ll make sure your printer delivers vibrant color prints again.
