Hello

To comment that the Hp support assistant was automatically updated to version 9 and does not work and in fact when installed does not appear in installed programs.

The panel does not charge and it is impossible to do anything. a disaster.

Reinstalled version 8 and all ok

Sure, I suppose if supported for the printer, and if HPSA auto-updates is switched on,

That the HPSA might indeed try to update the  printer software.

I have auto-updates switched off where ever I have HPSA installed - I don't like surprises.  Smiling.

The Full Feature Software / full driver printer software is available for your printer.

 

Full Feature Software / full driver printer software installation package - Information and Download

HP ENVY 4520 series Print and Scan Driver and Accessories 

 

Basic Instructions - Install the Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software

 

Preparation

  • If using VPN, shut it off to install software

 

  • Not working?  If the printer software is still / already installed, Uninstall the printer software  from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features > Restart the computer and log in – Reference Uninstall HP printer software and drivers

           Reminder:  Windows > Uninstall HP printer software, check / remove the printer from your Devices list.

 

  • Reminder:  If using USB cable between printer and computer, disconnect the cable before installing software.  Later... Connect the cable when instructed (near the end of the installation procedure).

 

Installation

  • Download and Save the Full Feature Software installation package or the Easy Start Software
  • Open File Explorer
  • Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation file  (likely Downloads)
  • Right-Click on the installation package and “Run as Administrator
  • If using Easy Start > When asked, opt for "Full Driver" (exact wording might vary).
  • If using Easy Start > Skip any extra software / offers you do not want (wording varies).
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

 

NOTES

Preparation > Check / enable the printer as the “Default Printer”

 

Settings > Devices > Printers and scanners

UNCHECK (clear box) Let Windows manage my default printer

The newer version of the HPSA might not be fully compatible with your computer.

 

HP Support Assistant is not actually part of your printer software or printer installation.

HPSA is installed on your supported HP computer running a recent version of Windows.

 

True: 

HPSA can detect and add your HP printer(s) to the list of systems it monitors. 

It might appear that HPSA is part of your printer software / printer installation.

 

Updated?

Presumably the installed HPSA version does not update itself unless the computer hardware is compatible.

 

This assumption does not appear to hold true IRL (in real life). 

 

I have run across other comments that agree with your assessment: 

The new version does not work on some older computers

OR

The new version works differently enough that the new version is disliked and eventually discarded.

 

When the "new" won't work, discard it in favor of the older "legacy" version.

 

Old > New -- What is different?

 

HPSA version 9.x is an Application - while it serves the same purpose of the older versions of the HP Support Assistant software, the HPSA application (as you found) does not list in Programs and Features.  Instead, the HPSA application is located in Settings > Apps > Apps and Features .

 

The two versions of HPSA are not compatible with one another - that is, you cannot have the HP Support Assistant software type installed and the newer HP Support Assistant application installed at the same time.

HPSA version 9.x is essentially serving the same purpose as the venerable version 8.8.x. 

 

The format and presentation is a little different for each type - both the "old" and the "new" versions of the HPSA  provide many of the same services. 

 

The format of the "newer" HPSA is compatible with newer devices and with Windows 11.

HP Support Solutions Framework

 

When installed, the older software type of the HP Support Assistant includes a "companion" software installation of the HP Support Solutions Framework software.  After you uninstall the software version of the HPSA, (next) uninstall the HP Support Solutions Framework (also in Programs and Features). 

 

After both programs are uninstalled, Restart the computer and log in.

 

NOTE: 

When installed as part of HP Support Assistant software, HP Support Solutions Framework is a subset of HPSA.  

For this reason, HPSA must be uninstalled before the Solutions Framework can be removed.

The newer application type of the HPSA does not automatically install the HP Support Solutions Framework. 

 

  If removed as part of an earlier "uninstall" procedure , and if wanted again later,

   When / Where / If supported on the currently running OS version,

   HP Support Solutions Framework software can be reinstalled.

   Open Product Home

   Open Category Software and Drivers

   Select to use “Auto-Detect” to find your system's drivers and software and to install HP Support Solutions

Hello

Thank you for your prompt response.

Uninstall version 9, and then as you indicate, the Hp solutions Framework, because it is not uninstalled with Hp solution Assistant, effectively.

Reinstall version 9 with the same result,,,on April it is left thinking and if I try to start session, it closes.

Uninstall and reinstall version 8 and all good.

I will leave this version installed and hope it will not act again, if I do not remove this software for now.

My windows 10 system is fully activated.

I have an older ZBook (running Windows 10) that dislikes the newer application type / version.

I have v8.x installed of the HPSA.

I don't use HPSA - there are generally no updates for this older system and, if wanted, business systems do support HPIA (HP Image Assistant).

In my case recently drivres were updated through this program.

What I see that now in the drivres section of the printer there are no drivres for download and instead says to use Hp Smart to configure it.

My printer is connected by usb and in its day use the complete drivrers but now they are no longer there and Hp smart does not have the option to update them.-

I suppose that currently only Hp smart is used to configure printers inhalambric and if the usb is connected the basic drivres will be installed automatically
