No Administrator Rights when installing HP Photosmart 7762w Photo Printer Software

When trying to install the software required to use the mentioned printerwith the original CD, the Setup Wizard claims the user account does not have Administrator Rights despite it being an Administrator Account and thus is unable to complete the installation.

It has been 'run as administrator' on the original system account, a newly made user account and the system administrator acount. These have been tried on Windows 10 and a freshly installed version of both Windows 10/11 on separate PCs. This problem does not occur on a laptop running Windows 10 that has previously used the printer with Windows 7. The online drivers have failed to install via both the website and through HP Assisstant. All done with a wired internet connection.

I see that you are facing an issue with your Printer.

The printer is obsolete and the software you are trying to install on windows 10 or 11 might not be supported due to compatibility issue with the OS.

Install the printer with Windows built-in driver and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Thank you for the reply.

I have managed to get the printer (HP 7762) working on my PC with new installation of Windows 10.

I had to update windows 10 and reboot several times and eventually the "driver unavailable" note on devices/printers/HP 7762 went away, so obviously the legacy driver on Windows 10 was now loaded uo and working.

One thing now, the software that came with this printer (HP 7762) included maintenance software, such as "cleaan print heads".  Is this software avaiable seperately from the HP driver,.  On the original disk I cannot just load the maintenance software.

To perform the printer maintenance, please follow the below steps.

If you have the HP smart app installed on your device, Open the HP Smart app, and then click the image of your printer to open the settings and management tools. Under Tools, click Print Quality Tools, and then select Clean Printhead or Clean.

Good day,

HP Smart app does not support this printer (HP 7762).

Although you said this printer is obsolete, it is still working and producing very good photo prints etc..

You say that the software/driver for this printer is not supported by Windows 10, well I have an old laptop which the printer has worked with since I bought the printer and drivers/full software suite loaded up from the original disk, this laptop was subsequently upgraded to WIndows 10 and the printer and software suite still works fine on the old laptop running Windows 10.

I have had 5 printers (HP officejet 8000 pro / HP officejet 7110 wide format) since the HP 7762 was retired to photo printing only and they are all dead and gone and the HP 7762 STILL WORKS.
