No Searchable pdf option in my All-in-One printers

I have lost the Searchable pdf option in my HP OJ 7720 and HP Smart Tank 790 All-in-One printers.

What do I need to install to get them back?

There are two entirely different answers for two different printers.

It's a first pass to try and explain what I found.

Hopefully, it makes sense...

I did not find evidence that the printer ever had any of its own embedded OCR software.

The printer is an eligible non-HP+ printer that can be upgraded to access and use the Premium Scan features.

Once the features are added, I cannot explain why they would not continue to be available.

Perhaps Remove / Hide the Printer from the Application >

Restart the computer and log in

Get a new copy of the application from the App Store.

Open HP Smart / HP App > Add Printer

I cannot find evidence that the printer ever had embedded OCR software.

It might have done -- and / or -- the full driver software might have had the OCR feature removed in mid-2022 when many printers did, in fact, lose the embedded version of the OCR software that was (used to be) part of HP Scan.

There IS an "update" that can presumably be on top of your full driver printer software (that includes HP Scan) .  That said, the description / notes say the full driver already includes the OCR.

The printer is not eligible for Smart Advance.

If the full driver / update does not include the OCR software, you might have to look for an older version of the full driver that you KNOW included the embedded OCR software OR you can purchase / download OCR software from the 'Net.
