HP DeskJet 4220e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Almost every day I'm having problems with the Printer/Scanner HP DESHJET 4220e. It is 90% of the time OFFLINE and 60% of the time I am not able to find it ANYWHERE? But it is installed in the CONNEVTED DEVICES but tells me there's NO software. Yes I've tried downloading from the HP SMARTYT? side with no luck at all. ANY help would be gratefully accepted.

Hi @Rainmaker79,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with constant printer issues. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problems with your HP Deskjet 4220e:

1. Check Connections:

  • Physical Connection: Ensure that all cables (USB or power) are securely connected. If you’re using a USB connection, try plugging it into a different port.
  • Network Connection: If your printer is wireless, make sure it’s connected to the same network as your computer. Check the Wi-Fi settings on the printer.

2. Restart Devices:

  • Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for a minute, and then turn it back on.
  • Computer: Restart your computer to clear any temporary issues that might be affecting the connection.

3. Update or Reinstall Drivers:

  • Driver Installation: Go to the HP Support website and search for the HP Deskjet 4220e. Download the latest drivers for your operating system and install them.
  • Uninstall/Reinstall: If the drivers are already installed but not working correctly, you might need to uninstall them first. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click on your printer, and choose Remove Device. Then, reinstall the drivers.

4. Check Printer Status:

  • Offline Status: In Devices and Printers, right-click on your printer and select See what’s printing. In the new window, click Printer and make sure Use Printer Offline is unchecked.
  • Default Printer: Ensure that your HP Deskjet 4220e is set as the default printer.

5. HP Smart App:

  • Reinstall HP Smart: If you’re having trouble with HP Smart, uninstall it from your computer and download it again from the HP Smart website or the Microsoft Store.
  • Setup Printer: Open HP Smart and follow the setup instructions to add your printer. Ensure that you are connected to the internet during this process.

6. Network Troubleshooting:

  • IP Address: Make sure your printer has a valid IP address. You can print a network configuration page from the printer’s control panel to check its IP address.
  • Firewall/Security Software: Check if your firewall or antivirus software is blocking the printer. You might need to add an exception for the printer.

7. Firmware Update:

  • Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP Support website. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.

8. HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Diagnostic Tool: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility. This tool can automatically diagnose and fix common printing and scanning issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
