Hi,

When I try to print from an application, I have no color option to select ..  so I can only print in black&white.

The tanks are full (just got my printer a few days ago.  The status report prints in color.

Do I need a new driver that will allow me to print in color, in Safari, Numbers, etc ?

OS: MaxOS Sonoma 14.5

Hi @BrunoP1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're having trouble with color printing on your HP Smart Tank 6000 after upgrading to macOS Sonoma 14.5. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you resolve this issue:

1. Check Printer Settings in macOS

a. Print Dialog Settings:

  • When you go to print from an application, click on the "Show Details" button in the print dialog. This expands the options and might reveal more settings.
  • Look for options related to color or quality. Ensure that “Color” is selected and not “Black & White”.

b. Printer Presets:

  • Check if there are any preset configurations applied to the printer that might be defaulting to black & white. You can select “Printer Features” or similar in the print dialog to adjust these settings.

2. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

a. Check for Updates:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners. Select your printer, then click “Options & Supplies” and check if there’s an update available for your driver.

b. Reinstall Drivers:

  • Visit the HP support website and download the latest driver for the Smart Tank 6000 compatible with macOS Sonoma 14.5.
  • Once downloaded, follow the installation instructions. After reinstalling, try printing again.

3. Verify Printer Configuration

a. Printer’s Internal Settings:

  • Access your printer's control panel or web interface and check the settings to ensure that color printing is enabled and configured correctly.

b. Print a Test Page:

  • Try printing a test page from the printer’s control panel or web interface to verify that the printer itself can produce color prints.

4. Reset Printing System

a. Reset the Printing System:

  • Sometimes resetting the printing system can resolve issues. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, right-click (or Control-click) on the printer list, and choose “Reset printing system...”. After the reset, add your printer again and try printing.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

After I posted this, I started a chat with HP Support team, with Youssef.  All I had to do was to delete the printer and the printer Settings, and reinstall it.  Youssef mentioned that this is a known bug with macOS.  If I lose the Print in Color option, just delete the printer and reinstall it.

So, problem solved… and I will know what to do if it happens again!

Thank you for your support.  (And sorry for not having updated this post earlier)
