I've got an Envy 4520 which has worked perfectly for a number of years. Recently I had a new hub and it stopped working, understandable. The only way that worked to reconnect was to download the software  again. Now I can print but there is no option to select colour.
I've uninstalled all HP software from my Windows 10 pc added HP Smart which seems pretty dumb! as setup says the printer is present and working. I have HP ink but the test page only prints in greyscale. I've also noticed that the duplex facility is missing from Printer Properties.
The problem is undoubtably a driver issue as in Device Manager I have found a message
Device SWD\PRINTENUM\WSD-50fa535f-d374-4004-af1d-9e855edc094a requires further installation

 

What should I do next?

I understand your HP ENVY 4520 printer is no longer printing in color, there are several troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue:


Check Print Settings:
 

  • Ensure that the print settings on your computer are set to print in color. Sometimes, the settings may default to black and white.
     
  • Go to "Devices and Printers" in your Windows 10 settings, right-click on your HP ENVY 4520, and select "Printing Preferences." Check the settings to ensure that color printing is selected.

Reinstall Printer Software:
 

  • Since you've already reinstalled the HP App, ensure that you have the latest drivers for your printer from the HP Support Website. Installing the latest drivers can resolve many issues.
     

Check Ink Levels:
 

  • Ensure that your color ink cartridges have sufficient ink. HP ENVY 4520 will not print in color if the color ink cartridges are depleted.


Run Printhead Cleaning:
 

  • Sometimes the printhead may need cleaning if there's an issue with color output. This can usually be done through the printer software on your computer or directly from the printer's control panel.


Firmware Update:
 

  • Check for any available firmware updates for your printer on Official HP® Support. An outdated firmware version can sometimes cause printing issues.

Wireless Connection:
 

  • Verify that your printer is properly connected to the new hub or router. A stable connection is necessary for successful printing.


Check HP Smart Diagnostics:
 

  • Although you mentioned HP Smart seems ineffective, it can sometimes resolve connectivity issues. Make sure it’s up to date and explore any tips or error messages it may provide.
