I had a printer issue where every time I sent a document to a printer it would try to open a webpage.
To remedy this I had to remove the printer and reinstall it including all its associated programs.
When reinstalling the software only the drivers, HP Update, Help, ORIS and Update programs are made available to install and not the Printer Software itself which allows me to view the printer and scan documents etc.
Downloaded the latest version and still get the same issue.
Any suggestions on how to remedy this would be appreciated.

I'd be happy to assist you !
Let's try and uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.
Let's try and uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.
First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP printer entries and uninstall them.
- Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
- Restart your computer.
- Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
- Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.
- Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".
- Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.
- Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
- Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
- Again, go running window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
- Once done you can try cleaning out your temporary files and cached files. You can try using automated applications like some cleaner software's that you can download from the internet.
- Now restart your computer again.
- Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
- Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
- Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
- Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well
- Windows image acquisition stop and restart the service
Reinstall the drivers from Software and drivers page

Hi,
Thanks for the response.
I followed the instructions above to the letter, but, unfortunately still no luck in installing the software. It says it is doing it and has done it successfully on completion but there is no sign of the software. In addition the software which would previously install Help File etc have also not installed this time!
I believe it recognises that the SW is not installed now as it tries to install it every time I run the install problem!
My only work around is to use the HP Smart app!

Install the built-in print driver over a network connection with Windows 10 or Windows 8.
-
In Windows, search for and open Control Panel.
-
Click Devices and Printers, and then click Add a printer.
-
On the Choose a device or printer to add to this PC window, select your printer, click Next, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver. If your printer is not in the list, continue with these steps.
-
Click The printer I want isn't listed, and then select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.
-
Click Next.
-
Select the port to be used by your printer, such as USB001 for a USB connected printer, and then click Next.
-
Click Windows Update, and then wait for the print drivers to update.
-
Click HP, Hewlett-Packard, or Hewlett Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.
-
If your printer is in the list, select it, click Next, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.
-
If your printer is not in the list, click the back arrow in the upper left corner of the window two times to return to the Find a printer by other options step, and then continue with these steps.
-
-
Select Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname, and then click Next.
-
Select Autodetect from the Device type drop-down list.
-
Type your printer IP address into the text box, and then click Next.
To find the printer IP address, print a Wireless Network Test report or a Network Configuration page.
-
Wait for the computer to connect to the printer, and then click Next to install the print driver.
Keep me posted!

Hi Jay,
Thanks for this - I had already done this after trying to re-install the basic software.
The printer is connected, drivers loaded, working correctly accept for the absence of the basic HP Printer SW which for some reason will not re-install.
I run two printers the Officejet 7612 and a Deskjet 3050 J610, the basic printer SW is installed for the 3050 and works correctly. As per the original message the basic printer SW for the 7612 was also installed and working correctly until the 7612 started to fail to print and instead try to open a webpage. To resolve this I had to de-install the 7612 and re-install it. This is when I discovered the basic printer SW would not install properly. I can print from office applications etc, but I could not open or access Scan Manager like I did before through the basic printer SW package.
I guess there is a registry entry associated with the previous install which is confusing the system. I have a work around by using HP Smart and using that to access the printer to view ink levels and scan documents etc, but it is annoying that I can't get the original printer SW to work again.

Try the below suggestions -
Step 1: Restart the computer
Restart the computer, and then try installing the software again. If the problem persists, continue to the next step.
Step 2: Make sure the print spooler service is running
The print spooler service temporarily stores files to be printed in a print queue until the printer is ready to process each print job. If the print spooler service is not running when you install the printer software, it can cause the software installer program to stop without an error message or warning.
-
Search Windows for view local services, and then click the View local services control panel setting in the list of results.
-
Scroll down to Print Spooler, and then make sure the print spooler status is Started.
-
If the print spooler service is started, skip to the next step to install the printer software.
-
If the print spooler is not started, continue with these steps.
-
-
Right-click Print Spooler, and then click Properties.
-
If the Startup type is set to Manual or Disabled, click the drop-down list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.
-
Under Service status, click Start, and then click OK.
-
Restart the computer, and then continue to the next step.
Step 3: Install the printer software from 123.hp.com
Download and install the latest software for your printer from the HP website.
-
Go to 123.hp.com/laserjet, click Download, and then follow the instructions to download and install the recommended software for you printer.
-
If the software does not open or your printer cannot be found, continue to the next step.
Step 4: Install the printer software from HP Customer Support
For some HP LaserJet printers, you might have to go to HP Software and Driver Downloads to download and install your printer software.
-
Type the printer model, and then click Submit.
-
Make sure the operating system is correct.
-
Locate the full feature software and driver, click Download, and then follow the instructions.
-
If the HP installation does not start automatically, find the file (hpsetup.exe) on your computer,
-
-
For HP LaserJet Pro P1102, P1606dn, and P1566 printers: Open File Explorer, navigate to the C:\ drive, and then find the LJP1000-_1560_P1600_Full_Solution folder.
-
For HP LaserJet Pro M12 printers: Open File Explorer, navigate to the C:\ drive, and then find the LJPM11-M13_Full_Solution folder.
-
For HP LaserJet Pro M1132, M1212-1214, and M1216-1218 printers: Search for and open the %temp% folder. Find the folder with 7z at the beginning of the name (for example, 7zS1234).
-
-
Double-click hpsetup.exe, and then follow any prompts to install the software.
Hope this helps!

Hi Jay,
Thanks for your help and persistence with this! Still no luck at this end. I have attached a couple of screen shots to show you what is happening.
Screen Shot 1 - Shows Basic Printer SW Installing
Screen Shot 2 - Shows successful completion of SW installation
Screen Shot 3 - Shows no programs installed for the Office jet 7612
If I run the installer again, after extracting the program and the tick box it just tries to install the Basic Printer SW with no other options to install any other programs.
The printer itself is installed, I can access it through device manager and HP Smart, I can send print jobs to it but for what ever reason the Basic Printer SW will not install..

Dorian

Hi Jay,
Again thanks for the update - but it didn't make any difference. I downloaded the SW from HP site, Clicked on install and after the tick to proceed it went through the action of installing the Basic Printer SW as above, it provides a installation complete flash screen but the SW didn't install.
Regards,
Dorian

This seems like an issue with the operating system on your computer.
Are you using an HP computer?
If so, May I have the exact model name of the product? Refer to this document for steps to find the product details. Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.
Let me know!
