Hi, same problem here. We sell hundreds of HP desktops and laptops per year but support the ability of customers to use unbranded inks to save money. I would be grateful if you could let me know how to downgrade the firmware, this is not obvious on the HP site.

Welcome to the HP Support Community. It is a great way to post questions and find resolutions by working with specialists in the HP community.
I see that you are facing issues with non-HP cartridges.
You may download available firmware updates from the HP website.
With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
The third-party ink cartridges will work. But there are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why its not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.
I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!
Take care and have a good day.
