Hi @Mimsnan,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand how frustrating it can be when you're trying to set up a new device and this printer seems to run into compatibility issues. Let's work through this together to get your HP OfficeJet Pro 8124e set up and ready to go.

  • Are you trying to download HP Smart from the App Store on your iPad or a different platform (like Windows or Mac)?
  • Has the printer been set up on another device, or is this the first time you're trying to connect it?
  • Are you trying to connect the printer via Wi-Fi or USB, and have you confirmed your iPad is connected to the same network?

Let's try these steps.

Check for iPadOS Compatibility:

  • Ensure that your iPad is running the latest version of iPadOS. Go to Settings > General > Software Update to check for any available updates.
  • Check the HP Smart app requirements on the App Store to confirm if it supports your current iPadOS version. If not, the app may need an update from HP to support newer versions of iPadOS.

Use Alternative Printer Setup Methods:

  • If the HP Smart app isn't working, try setting up the printer using Apple AirPrint. Ensure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPad.
  • Open any app on your iPad (like Photos or Mail) and select Print. If your printer is listed, select it and proceed with printing.

Reinstall the HP Smart App:

  • Delete the current HP Smart app from your iPad and reinstall it from the App Store. This may resolve any issues with the installation process.

Reset Printer Network Settings:

  • If you're still having issues, try resetting the printer’s network settings. This can often resolve connection problems. You can do this from the printer’s control panel by navigating to Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
  • After resetting, reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network by following the printer’s on-screen prompts.

Manual Setup via Web Interface:

  • If the app isn’t working, you can try accessing the printer’s web interface. In a browser, enter the printer's IP address (available on the network configuration page printed by the printer).
  • From there, you can manually configure the printer and update its settings.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
