Hi,
I have installed my printer on my ASUS Chromebook but cannot get it to print. On the printer page it shows that it is saved but I get the error under the printer name, "Not Connected to Printer" in red. I have installed the HP apps on my Chromebook and they do not recognize my printer. I have tried to add the printer manually with the IP address and am still unsuccessful. Any help is appreciated.
TIA

Hi @rrandar,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281cdw not connecting to your ASUS Chromebook, try the following steps:
1. Check Printer and Chromebook Connectivity:
- Ensure Printer is On and Connected to Wi-Fi: Make sure your printer is powered on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromebook. You can verify the connection on the printer's display panel under the Wi-Fi settings.
- Check Printer IP Address: Confirm that the printer's IP address is correct. You can print a network configuration page from the printer to check the IP address.
2. Use the HP Print for Chrome Extension:
- Install the Extension: If you haven't already, install the HP Print for Chrome extension from the Chrome Web Store.
- Add the Printer: After installing the extension, click on the HP Print for Chrome icon in your Chrome browser and follow the prompts to add your printer. Make sure to select the correct IP address if you’re adding it manually.
3. Reboot Devices:
- Restart Your Printer: Turn off your printer, wait for 30 seconds, and turn it back on.
- Restart Your Chromebook: Restart your Chromebook to clear any temporary network or connection issues.
4. Manually Add the Printer Using the IP Address:
- Open Chromebook Settings: Go to the "Settings" on your Chromebook, then navigate to "Advanced" > "Printing" > "Printers."
- Add Printer Manually:
- Click on "Add Printer."
- Enter the printer’s IP address in the "Address" field.
- Under "Protocol," select "IPPS" or "IPP."
- Use the correct "Queue" (often it’s /ipp/print or leave it blank).
- Choose the Printer Model: Select "HP" as the manufacturer and choose "HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281cdw" from the list.
5. Use Google Cloud Print (if available):
- Google Cloud Print is deprecated, but some older setups might still have it. If your printer was set up with Cloud Print before the service was discontinued, it might cause conflicts. Ensure Cloud Print is disabled on your Chromebook.
6. Check for Software Updates:
- Ensure both your Chromebook OS and HP printer firmware are up to date. You can update the Chromebook OS via "Settings" > "About Chrome OS." For the printer firmware, check the HP website for the latest firmware version.
7. Test Printing:
- After following the above steps, try to print a test page from your Chromebook.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi,
I have the printer installed on the computer wirelessly and wired via USB. I and see the printer in both instances on the computer but can only print when plugged in via USB. The wireless one says that it cannot connect to the printer.
